NHA 2024 Virtual Conference: A Celebration of Compassionate and Sustainable Living

The National Health Association (NHA) has been promoting plant-based eating for health and the environment for 76 years. Each year, the NHA hosts a conference (in person and virtually), to provide the latest evidence-based information on plant-based nutrition, including its health benefits, its role in preventing and reversing chronic diseases, and its impact on the environment.

Mark your calendar for this year’s virtual conference, being held on June 27 - 30, 2024.

The conference will feature renowned experts in plant-based eating, including Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Dr. Neal Barnard and Dr. Ron Weiss, among others.

Compassionate Living to Benefit Your Health and the Environment With climate change becoming an increasingly pressing issue, plant-based eating is an important way for individuals to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable world.

The conference will also highlight the connection between compassionate living and sustainability. Animal agriculture is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and water pollution, and transitioning to plant-based eating can have a significant positive impact on the environment.

In addition to its environmental benefits, plant-based eating is also associated with numerous health benefits. A plant-based diet has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Moreover, by eliminating animal products, plant-based eating can reduce the intake of saturated fat and cholesterol, leading to improved overall health.

The mission of the National Health Association (NHA) is to educate and empower individuals to understand that health results from healthful living. We recognize the integration of all aspects of health: personal, environmental, and social. We communicate the benefits of a plant-based diet, exercise and rest, a healthy environment, psychological well-being, and the benefits of water-only fasting.

We take a leadership role in advocating health freedom issues and have done so now for 76 years.

In 1948, the American Natural Hygiene Society (ANHS) was established in New York City by pioneering figures including Drs. Herbert Shelton, William Esser, and others. The ANHS inaugural National Convention took place in 1949, marking a milestone in its journey. Throughout the years, ANHS continued to expand its influence, with significant milestones such as the formation of the Natural Hygiene Press in 1964 and achieving nonprofit status in 1969. Dr. Shelton's profound impact on the movement is evident in the publication of his seminal work, "Fasting Can Save Your Life."

The ANHS’s evolution saw shifts in leadership and headquarters, culminating in its name change to the NHA and the relocation to Youngstown, Ohio, under the leadership of President Mark Huberman in 2014. Today, under the guidance of Executive Director Wanda Huberman, the NHA remains committed to its mission of promoting natural hygiene principles and holistic health practices.
